First Semester at Nanwalek School a Great Success!!!!

We are well into second semester now, and back from our January winter break! Students have taken their winter benchmarks, and we are already seeing academic progress as a result of teachers and students working hard, and because of our ConnectED iPad implementation! In December, we offered an update to the KPBSD School Board, and our presentation is now posted on YouTube. We recently had a ConnectED Photo Shoot, with auditory interviews, and we will let you know when that product is available. Nanwalek students and parents have been great partners in our ConnectED project this year! We look forward to all the learning that our spring semester will bring to our school!

A Successful First Quarter for Nanwalek School!!!!

We have had an engaging, active quarter of learning for all members of our learning community with the implementation of 1:1 iPads! A big thank you to parents! Our attendance has significantly increased over last school year!

Some memorable events this quarter included President Obama giving Nanwalek School a shout-out during his Kotzebue speech! Our student rollout celebration in August was incredible! This quarter, we also started a middle school basketball program, thanks to Coach Doering and Auggie! Teachers received five days of professional development to learn to use our new technology for increased learning in their classrooms! Mrs. Kleine was invited to speak at the National Indian Education Association conference, and she enjoyed sharing the Nanwalek experience with other educators! And Chugach Corporation provided a job fair with many vendors right here in our very own school.

Our students are the sunshine of our lives! They are the apples of our eyes! We love partnering with our students and their families!!!

Welcome to the 2013-14 school year!

Welcome to our 2013-14 school year!  Nanwalek students will begin school on August 19, and will attend school from 9:00 – 3:30 each day.

After school opportunities will be announced once school begins.

Please find the school supply list on our website.  It is very important that students have indoor shoes for school. It is recommended that these shoes be appropriate for PE.

This year, Nancy Kleine will be a Regional Administrator.  She will be in Nanwalek four days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday), and Port Graham one day (Wednesday).  Please stop by the school anytime!

Please welcome new staff members! Ann Evans has been hired as our Title I/Title VII tutor.  Penny Bearden will teach secondary math/science and middle school PE.  Eric Schave will be the special education teacher.

There have also been changes in two staff assignments.  Sally Ash  is our Sugs’stun teacher, and Keith Seville will teach Foods I.  It’s wonderful to have versatile  staff members!

In addition to being an elementary teacher, Sonya Selanoff is an Administrative Intern this year.  We will be proud to see Sonya earn her advanced degree in education.

Nanwalek School has a site council that meets regularly each month.  Notices for meetings will be sent home.  Parents and community are encouraged to attend meetings.  The site council is an advisory committee that helps steer the direction of school policies.

Questions?  Please call the school starting August 7.  281-2210
